Welcome to the user manual for RoadBlock for Windows 95 and Windows NT. This manual will walk you through installing, configuring and troubleshooting RoadBlock.

Once you have downloaded the installation file to a folder on your computer (i.e. c:\temp). Simply execute the file rb100.exe by double clicking on it in Windows Explorer or by typing it on the command line. When you execute this file it will uncompress the installation files and automatically begin the setup program. The instructions in the setup program are relatively self explanatory. Be sure to read the license agreement and send in your registration at the end of the 30 day free trial. If you do not wish to register the program then you must uninstall it after when the trial period is over.
Secondary DNS Server - this is the Internet IP address of the secondary DNS server. This must be entered in a numeric format such as the one above. If you do not know this address you can contact your Internet provider to get this information. Often times Internet providers will only require one DNS server. If this is the case, you must fill in the secondary DNS server with the same numbers as the primary DNS server.
DNS Request Log File - This field should contain a file name where you would like for the Internet requests to be logged. This file will have a record of each Internet request. You can use any text processing program such as "notepad" to view this file. You can also view it from the "File" menu on the main RoadBlock screen.
DNS Block Control File - This field should contain a file name for a file that contains a list of the key words that you do not want your computer to access. A sample block file is installed into the application folder by setup. It is called block.txt. You can use any text processing program such as "notepad" to view this file. You can also edit this file from the main menu in RoadBlock by choosing File | Edit Control File.
Log DNS Requests - Checking this box will cause the program to log all Internet DNS requests into the DNS log file specified above.
Block Specified Requests - Checking this box will cause the program to block access to Internet servers that contain the key words specified in the Block Control file.
Press OK to save the configuration settings or cancel to exit the configuration screen.
First of all, you must configure your computers
networking, to do this choose Setting | Control Panel from your computers
start menu. When the control panel appears double-click on network.
You should see a screen similar to the one below:

When the network configuration screen appears,
select "TCP/IP" and press the "Properties" button. The screen below
should appear:

First, select the existing DNS servers and press the remove button for each one. It is a good idea to write these numbers down before you delete them. Second type in the number 127.0.0.1 and press the "Add" button. Now press the "OK" button on this screen. The previous screen will then appear. Press "OK" on that screen also. When the computer asks you if you would like to restart, click "Yes".
When your computer restarts RoadBlock should be running in hidden mode. Connect to the Internet and try contacting some Internet sites. To make RoadBlock visible simply run it from the "Start Menu". You can look at the log file from within RoadBlock. To hide RoadBlock select the "View" menu and then select "Hide RoadBlock".
